Stratton Specialty Coatings, Inc. is the oldest terrazzo company in San Diego. Our family performed the original installations at Lindbergh Field and the Sports Arena. More recently, we have completed highly visible installations at Yan Can Cook located in the San Diego International Airport and the Science & Technology Center located at the University of San Diego. The National Terrazzo and Mosaic Association awarded Stratton Specialty Coatings, Inc. with their prestigious “Honor Award” in 2008.

Terrazzo is the combination of an aggregate material, such as marble, granite, glass, plastic, or mother of pearl with a matrix material of either cement or epoxy. The poured surface is then ground smooth to expose the aggregate material. Terrazzo is the perfect finish for bathrooms, lobbies, corridors, countertops, logos or any other surface that must combine beauty and durability.

Below Grade Waterproofing

When waterproofing the positive side of a retaining wall, we use either fluid applied products such as Vulkem 201 or a sheet membrane waterproofing like Jiffyseal 140/60. The waterproofing is covered by a protection or drainage board.

Colorflake is a seamless, fluid-applied epoxy flooring system installed on residential garage floors, light manufacturing and vehicle service areas. It is comprised of a multi-step installation consisting of an epoxy primer basecoat and an epoxy pigmented receiving coat, which is broadcast with decorative vinyl chips, followed by clear topcoat. The decorative vinyl chips can be broadcast from sparse to full, depending on desired look. Stratton Specialty Coatings, Inc. installs epoxy floors and wall coatings in commercial kitchens, clean rooms, vivariums, garages, warehouses, hangars, breweries or anywhere that a clean, durable surface is desired. Epoxy flooring can solve the problems of heavy industrial use, slip- retardance, waterproofing, chemical resistance, sanitation, sloping, and appearance enhancement.

Our vapor control systems are used under non-breathing flooring systems as a moisture mitigating primer. When applicable, a calcium chloride moisture test is performed to determine moisture levels in the surface. We follow specific factory guidelines for acceptable moisture levels and make our recommendations accordingly. Installing a vapor barrier can significantly prolong the life of the floor.
